Cam Kim is one of 13 communes/wards, which has a long history in Hoi An ancient town. The name Cam Kim commune appeared in 1956. Cam Kim was formerly known as Kim Bong village/commune. The Phan clan, along with the other clans such as Nguyen, Huynh, Truong ... were originally from Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, following the "Southern movement" of Dai Viet feudal state. Especially, "Southern movement" of Nguyen Lords settled in Quang Nam around the 16th to 17th centuries and established a village, a carpentry and masonry village of Kim Bong in Cam Kim. Phan Xuan family chapel is the place to worship the ancestors of the Phan Xuan Family, a large branch of the Phan Family was present in Kim Bong village from the beginning of the 16th century. The relic was built by the talented artisans of Kim Bong carpentry village (the date of construction is unknown, however, based on architectural design and materials, the family chapel could have been built in the late 19th century). The relic has high architectural and artistic value, representing the traditional village architecture with a three-way gate, three compartments and two lean-tos house, a meticulous carved wooden system. It was recognized as the National historical and cultural monument in 1991 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
