Description

Song Thanh National Park is divided into 2 areas: a 93,429 hectare (230868 acre) core zone; and a 108,398 hectare (267857 acre) buffer zone. The core zone is divided into two areas: a preservation only area of 75,373 hectares and an ecological rehabilitating area of 17,512 hectares.<br\/> Over 830 species of plants were recorded here during surveys carried out in 1997 and 1999 by the WWF- Indochina and the Institute of Vietnam Forest Investigation Project. Among these species, 23 are considered commercially useful, and 38 species area endangered species recorded in the Red Book of Viet Nam. The forest fauna here is also tremendously varied, with 53 species of mammals, 183 species of birds, 44 species of reptiles, 21 species of amphibians and 25 species of fish, many of them endangered Among these are some famous but increasingly rare animals, including tigers, leopards, and elephants.
