The Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area in Nong Son District is the first conservation area in Vietnam to be established, which is particularly important for conserving the remaining elephant population in Quang Nam, in the above context. The world as well as in Vietnam are facing the threat of extinction. Since its establishment and operation until now, Quang Nam Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area has well performed activities of forest management, protection and development; Fire protection and biodiversity conservation on the assigned area. Especially, at the end of 2019, the Elephant herd in the Nature Reserve gave birth to 01 baby elephant, bringing the total number of individuals of the herd from 7 individuals to 8 individuals. This is a positive signal for the conservation of Asian Elephant species in Quang Nam in particular and the country in general. Elephant species and habitat conservation area with a fairly diverse and rich flora and fauna system: 580 species of higher plants have been recorded, belonging to 367 genera of 104 families; 90 species are listed as endangered and rare in the Red Book of Vietnam and International (IUCN, 2020)
Fauna with 39 species of mammals, 170 species of birds, 38 species of reptiles, 31 species of amphibians.
